American Airlines wont get its first Boeing 787 until 2014

American Airlines disclosed Wednesday that its first delivery of its Boeing 787-9s will come in 2014, two years after the original schedule.

It still has the same 42 of the aircraft on order, with an option for another 58. There’s just this delay.

In its 10-Q filed Wednesday afternoon, American said it and Boeing agreed to the change because of delays and problems in the Boeing 787 development.

The aircraft was supposed to be delivered to the first commercial customers, All Nippon Airways, in 2008. The new schedule calls for first delivery in late 2010, and Boeing has said it might get delayed into early 2011.

American has made the purchase dependent on reaching a contract deal with the Allied Pilots Association. The airline and union have been negotiating for nearly four years on a new contract.
