How many BA airmiles is it to the moon?
It has to be up on the list of things that every young person wants to do. Most of us have flown to another place at some time or another, for a package holiday, to see a friend or to seek a new life.
When did this happen? When did we start to take for granted this miraculous feat of engineering, when did become a bus in the sky? It has to be said that the greatest sense of awe about a flight these days is merely the length of the cue. The guards can sense your frustration and it sustains them! Of course none of this is a worry to those happy few in Virgin Upperclass, those with enough money to enjoy their experience. But even this travel with its comfort and convenience is as uneventful to sum as standard class.
But what about the plane, does anyone worry about how this behemoth gets off the ground let alone stay up there; clearly not though I must admit to feeling some comfort from being seated near the exit. We have just about reached the point to where like the bumble bee we see the common place and view it commonly.
So to return to the orginal question, how many BA airmiles does it take to get to the moon?? A question which probably fermented from childhood encounters in space. Imagined admittedly, but born from a diet of StarWars and Si-fi which made the wondrous become mundane, even though the reality was much more terrestrial. And although miles that most people obtain can possibly get them to NewYork, you can now get to the moon for 200k. It seems that whilst my miles are unlikely to to take me even to NewYork; 200k in hard cash can get me a ticket to the moon, or dam near! It seems that everything is on track for the first flight of Virgin Galactic, after talk of inflatable hotels in space and the worlds richest nations struggling to compleat a much scaled back international space station, it seems once more we can rely upon her Majestys most entrepreneurial Knight to deliver the future. Once more the wonder of flight becomes the focus; the journey the main event, and the vehicle a wonder! Heres hoping that one day Sir Richard Branson will be redeeming Virgin Galactic miles, and our only decision will be whether to upgrade to Galactic Upperclass!
