It turns out, getting your passport is not difficult these days. Anyone who needs a new passport or has one expiring can now fill in a form on the Internet. When the form is completed and printed on the computer printer, it must be signed and mailed, with two pictures and the passport fee. The form will require ones name, sex, date of birth, social security number and place of birth. If applying to renew a passport, the Internet form must list the old passport number. In this case, when the form is sent in the old passport must be surrendered and new pictures sent. An Ordinary passport must be renewed every ten years. It is also possible fill out a form for an emergency passport.
People visiting foreign countries have increased dramatically over the past few years. The year 2007 showed a total of over eighteen million United States passports issued. The American consulates and embassies work with this office to coordinate the efforts in this regard.
