Pasport Form – Do Not Put Off Until The Last Minute
The U.S. government relies on paperwork for everything they do and this is no different when it comes to getting a passport or maintaining one. The right American passport form can help an individual get a new passport or renew an old one and selecting the correct one can mean the difference between a quick application and a drawn out one. There are two basic forms when it comes to getting a new passport and they are the DS-11 and DS-82.
Everyone has seen a United States passport at some point in their life, whether it was in real life or in a movie, with its blue cover and distinctive gold seal. The standard issue passport has a life of 10 years for adults and only five years for a minor child, 16 or under, before needing renewal. The age of the applicant plays a part in which forms will be necessary when filing an application for a brand new passport.
Generally, people applying for this documentation need to make an appearance at one of the designated government facilities where they will present their passport form. Such facilities would fall under the Department of States Bureau of Consular Affairs, Office of Passport Services and Customer Service. One such facility that falls under this department is the local post office.
Those individuals who need to make an appearance at such a government facility would be applying for their first passport and those under sixteen years old. Also, anyone who acquired a passport when they were fifteen or younger and are looking to renew must make an in-person appearance. These individuals have to follow some guidelines that deal with the type of documentation they need to bring to such a facility.
Lost and/or stolen passport replacement requires the same type of documentation that is necessary for a new one. There are also separate forms for those that have had information change on their passport such as their name due to marriage and passport holders whose passport are over 15 years old and are in need of renewal. Any one meeting these conditions will need to fill out the DS-11 either before arriving or while at the passport facility.
Once the proper form has been found and completed, there will be accompanying paperwork that the applicant will need to provide. Proof of citizenship is one major form that will need to be produced and this should be in the form of a birth certificate. The birth certificate should be one that is obtained for the city, county or state that the individual was born in and have the issuing agencys seal on it.
It is a good idea to have all the documentation organized and in one place when coming in to apply for a passport. The issuing agency will also require photocopies of identification such as a drivers license or state issued ID card for proof. If these are not available, there are other forms that will be accepted in lieu of these and the list can be found on the governments website.
Acquiring a passport is something that everybody should do, whether an individual thinks he or she is going to travel abroad or not. One never knows what the future may hold. Regardless, a passport form can be found online and either filled out online or printed out to fill out with pen. Just make sure that nothing is signed until you are in front of an agent or you will have to do it all over again.
