Sun Country Airlines – A Tale of Success and Challenge
Sun Country Airlines is the result of a dream of aviation professionals who used to work for Braniff Airlines in the early 80s. The people who started Sun Country loved their chosen fields in aviation, so they did what anybody would do – they created their own airline. They hung on as long as they could until the insanity of September 11th took over, and that forced them under a few months later. Just like the phoenix who rises from the ashes, Sun Country Airlines was bought up and then put back into business. Thus proving the resiliency of this company to find a way to come back to life and continue doing what they do best.
Its regular flights were resumed after being bought by investors in 2002. A few of the popular destinations they transported passengers to on these schedules included Orlando Florida, Los Angeles California and Denver Colorado among others. Washington DC and New York City were soon added to the regular schedule of flight destinations. This little airline quickly gained popularity in the state of Minnesota where it is based out of St. Paul. Service to passengers has been the main goal of improvement since their return in early 2002.
For Sun Country the July 2010 announcement of Travel and Leisure Magazines top 10 domestic airline inclusion was huge! This award is part of Travel & Leisures World Best Service Award for 2010. Its important to note that this particular award is not just handed out like candy, its earned based on the reviews of actual passengers on the airlines in question. Some of the areas that are included in these grades are customer satisfaction with the personal attention and service they receive. Now, as of the middle of 2010, Sun Country is carrying passengers to Hawaii as well as London, England. The Boeing 737 – 800 twin engine airliner was the chosen aircraft. Sun Country Airlines has done that before with crossing the Atlantic using airliners with twin engine power plants. The very first trip across the Atlantic for Sun Country occurred in June (2010) when they flew from Minneapolis Minnesota to London England. This company is considered small on a regional scale of operations. Although they are a popular hot spot carrier when it comes to flights to places like the Caribbean Islands or Mexico among others. Sun Country was first operated by people working under Braniff Airlines. This happened after Braniff went out of business these experienced and talented individuals founded Sun Country.
