Interesting Facts About Mesa Airlines

Mesa Airlines was created in 1980, and since then it has done so much you could actually write a whole book on it! A lot of hard graft was put in to allow this airline to develop and increase their fleet of aircraft. But it really was not until the events of 9/11 that Mesa took decisive control over their destiny. Since December of 2001, the company has enjoyed profitable quarters, even though they entered into a brief bankruptcy proceedings to reduce overhead and expenses. The company has earned their wings through many battles, and their corporate leadership is perhaps as good as can be found anywhere.

Mesa Airlines was created as a division of JB Aviation in the 1980′s by two people, Larry Risley and Jane Risley. For the next 5 years Mesa Airlines (or Mesa Air Shuttle, as it was renamed in 1982) had flights from both New Mexico and Albuquerque. After moving everything over to their main base in Phoenix, Arizona they went looking for code sharing partners. All major airlines were involved with sharing codes as it is common between all major and minor airlines in the industry. Eventually Mesa did a code sharing agreement with America West Airlines in 1992.

Mesa Air Group has several individual airlines under them; all of which are linked, including Mesa Airlines.

One of these airlines is Go! Mokulele; granting commercial transport to the Hawaiian Islands. Honolulu, Hawaii is the base where this associated airline uses their many Bombardier CRJ 200 planes. Mesa originally developed “go” in 2006, where upon a code share alliance took shape with Mokulele Airlines. This move allowed planes to land on the Hawaiian Islands that are not able to manage jet service.

In 2003 Mesa formed an agreement with a very well known airline called United Airlines. The reason for doing this code share was to make way for services running from a number of airports, including Denver, Washington-Dulles and O’Hare. From this agreement another new airline came about, this time it was called United Express Airlines. United Express’s fleet only consists of Bombardier planes. By the end of 2009 all Dash 8 planes had been taken out of service, which was simply an option made by the management. This is a story I can readily believe after spending 4 hours waiting for a flight to Turkey because the Captain was stuck in traffic – I arrived at my Kas Hotel a lot later than expected.

Mesa has not just profited, since the Mesa Group was created, but are doing quite well as result of. Mesa and three accompanying transport services are all associated with the Air Group. This is one of the more interesting regional carriers if not for the fact they have created an organization in which they exist as a subsidiary. The bankruptcy reorganization which was finalized in March of 2011 will allow the company to emerge in only 13 months.

That is a development that took the aviation by surprise due to the short time period.

Firstly is to always check online to see if there are any delays to the flight before leaving the house to travel to the airport – this is now a must and has saved me many hours over the past 2 years.

Secondly is the use of the valet parking service. This is something that tends to save me a great deal of hassle and I now would not know what to do without the valet parking! How times have changed!
